16 weeks - An exciting weekend!

So Ryan and I had an exciting weekend! Not only did we get the furniture for the baby's room, and the bedding, we also had an ultrasound done to determine if the baby is a boy or a girl!

After a few minutes of searching, the baby finally decided to cooperate and share the sex with us - and we discovered a little boy! We are both so excited and cannot wait to meet him. As time passes, we become more and more attached to the little being growing inside of me.

Below are pics of the ultrasound and the bedding that we just purchased. Enjoy!

15 Weeks

So we've successfully made into the 2nd trimenster. I am delighted, as the sickness is supposed to start easing off. I was able to indulge during the Thanksgiving holiday, and eat all of my favorite foods, so it looks like I am headed in the right direction!

I also had my second doc appointment yesterday, where I heard the heartbeat again. It's always amazing, and makes this entire experience more "real." The heartbeats resulted in 150 beats, which is a slight decrease from my first visit. Now I need to study up on all those old wives tales to determine if that means boy or girl! I also had my glucose test done, and I am awaiting the results.

My next appointment is scheduled for 12/29, and I'll get to have another ultrasound. I am hoping to determine the sex even earlier, thanks to my personal Ultrsound tech, and sister, Dawney!

My growing baby now measures about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces. he or she is busy moving amniotic fluid through the nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive air sacs in her lungs begin to develop. The legs are growing longer than her arms now, and he/she can move all of her joints and limbs. Although the eyelids are still fused shut, the baby can sense light.

Amazing isn't it? Next, I hope to feel the baby move...I'm waiting for my first flutter:-)

11 weeks - Our First Appointment

We finally had our first pre-natal appointment on Monday. SOOOO exciting. Ryan and I both took the entire day off so that we could take our time and enjoy ourselves. Our appointment was scheduled for 9:45, so of course I begged him to stop for a jelly biscuit on the way:-)

Everything went very well. First, we got to see the ultrasound. TRULY amazing. The baby has grown so much! We saw two feet and two hands and the baby was flipping around....likely thanks to my jelly biscuit. The ultrasound also determined that I was 11 weeks and 4 days long, making my new due date 5/21/2009. Everything looked great...we were even able to see some facial features.

Following the ultrasound, we met with the OB Nurse to determine do's and don'ts, and discuss medical history. Then I met with the doctor. The only concern was my sugar level. It was slightly high, so during my next visit, we plan to do a full blown glucose test.

And the best news of all - I haven't been quite as sick this week. Horray! Hopefully I'm on my way to a peaceful 2nd trimester!

10 weeks - Making Progress

So I am embarking on week number 10. I'll admit, I've been a little slack with the blogging, but at times it just seems like another item on the dreaded "to do list." So my new philosophy is to write when I feel like it. Today is one of those days.

I'm learning with time how to conquer the constant sickness...I keep saltines with me at all times....no joke! They are at my desk, in my kitchen, and even in my car. Seems a bit extreme I know, but it helps.

I'm also starting to show, so this belly of mine if making my old clothes harder to fit into. VERY annoying, because it seems that I don't look pregnant, only fat. I know that will change in due time...

I also just learned that my baby is the size of a prune. Now we're talking - that's big enough to see!! That means on Monday, when I have my first appointment, hopefully it will be an action-packed ultrasound!

My cravings are.....funny. So far, I LOVE carbs and popcicles. I CANNOT get enough cherry popcicles. In fact, I could demolish one right this very second. But all I have are saltines! I've also grown closer to soup - and further away from meat and chicken. But potatoes and mac and cheese are also a delight.

I'll have more news to share on Monday! More later....

7 weeks

Hands and feet are emerging from developing arms and legs — although they look more like paddles at this point than the tiny, pudgy extremities you're daydreaming about holding and tickling. Technically, your baby is still considered an embryo and has something of a small tail, which is an extension of her tailbone. The tail will disappear within a few weeks, but that's the only thing getting smaller. Your baby has doubled in size since last week and now measures half an inch long, about the size of a blueberry.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So this week, I am discovering that the "bluberry" is making me a little sick. I have had my worst week yet related to morning sickness....which doesn't even happen in the morning. I am learning to eat small meals and to never, ever let my stomach get empty. Other than that, all is well. Hubby is still very excited and we are talking a lot about baby names:-)

6 weeks

This week's major developments: The nose, mouth, and ears that you'll spend so much time kissing in eight months are beginning to take shape. If you could see into your uterus, you'd find an oversize head and dark spots where your baby's eyes and nostrils are starting to form. His emerging ears are marked by small depressions on the sides of the head, and his arms and legs by protruding buds. His heart is beating about 100 to 160 times a minute — almost twice as fast as yours — and blood is beginning to course through his body. His intestines are developing, and the bud of tissue that will give rise to his lungs has appeared. His pituitary gland is forming, as are the rest of his brain, muscles, and bones. Right now, your baby is a quarter of an inch long, about the size of a lentil bean.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So the 6 week mark has been a good one. I'm still very queasy in the evenings, right at 8pm. Ryan thinks it's all in my head, but if I have an empty stomach, I certainly start to feel bad.

I'm also noticing a bad cough every time I eat, or lie down for the evening. I'm assuming this is heartburn or acid reflux. What a delight!
Now, the big questions in our near future are related to insurance. Whew!

5 weeks and counting...

Good news! I'm already at five weeks, and the baby is now the size of an orange seed. Actually, it's not unlike a tadpole, with a rudimentary head and a tail.

It's hard to believe that something the size of an orange seed is changing my body in so many ways. I've had a great week, experiencing some soreness in places I could have never imagined, along with a typical surge of nauseousness around 8 pm every night. Other than that, and being a bit tired, I am doing quite well.

Ryan is still very excited and mentions atleast once a day that he wishes time would pass much faster. His frustration enters when I don't feel well, or cannot eat what he has in mind. I think we'll get used to these changes soon enough.

On a different note, I've had to move my first appointment to November 3rd, based on some changes with our insurance. That being said, I'll be at 11 weeks, so I'll be able to learn alot more by then.

Than you all so much for your well wishes as we encounter the ups and downs of pregnancy! It's definitely been interesting so far....

It's Official!

It's official! For those of you that do not know, we are having a baby! Yes, I said baby. Not a pit bull baby - a real, Nelson baby! Surprise!

In the days leading up to last weekend, I had not been feeling quite myself....a little nauseous, very tired, etc. So, on Sunday, September 14th, I woke up and decided to take a test. Luckily, I had one stashed away...

In literally one second, it said I was pregnant. In disbelief, I asked Ryan to come in and take a look. It was true - it definitely said pregnant. Within minutes, he was calling friends, parents, sisters, etc. so I knew he was okay with the whole thing. My parents, sister, and friends were all thrilled with the news. In fact, they've all been DYING for us to expand our family, so this could not have come a moment too soon for any of them.

I called the doc on Monday and set up my first pre-natal appointment. I became a bit nervous when she said I could come in on October 27th at 1pm. I always dreamed this process worked a little differently, but I am learning to go with the flow. So that being said, on Oct. 27, I have my first appointment and ultrasound. Hopefully by then, Baby Nelson will be large enough to see.

So the journey begins here. I hope to share with you all what I am going through as the weeks progress. So far, pregnancy = queasiness. The smell of certain foods make me queasy. And I can tell my body is doing weird things inside...hmmm.....what's next?
